With the release of Android 13, Google unveiled a dynamic theming feature for app icons. Over a year later, this feature is gaining traction among app developers, with some of them now incorporating dynamic-themed app icons into their applications. Instagram, too, has joined the trend by introducing this feature for Android users with compatible devices.
Instagram Now Supports Dynamic Theme App Icons
The latest version of the Instagram app for Android reportedly includes support for a dynamic-themed app icon. If you’re using Android 13 or a more recent version on your Galaxy smartphone, you can enjoy a Material You-themed icon for the Instagram app. This icon displays a dual-tone design, with the primary color derived from your chosen home screen wallpaper, thanks to the Monet theming engine.
To activate Material You-themed app icons on your Galaxy smartphone or tablet, follow these steps: long-press on your device’s home screen, tap on “Wallpaper and style,” select “Color palette,” enable the Color palette feature, and then activate “Apply palette to app icons.”
Notably, several social media apps have recently adopted Material You-themed app icons. These apps include Mastodon, LinkedIn, Reddit, Telegram, Threads, and WhatsApp. Additionally, most apps developed by Google and Samsung also support this customization feature. Expect more apps to integrate this theming feature in the near future.
