Earlier this week, Samsung rolled out the October 2023 security patch for the Galaxy S21 FE in Europe. Now, the company is extending this update to both the carrier-unlocked and carrier-locked versions of the smartphone in the United States, which are identified by model numbers SM-G990U and SM-G990U1.
For the carrier-unlocked version of the Galaxy S21 FE, the new firmware version is G990USQS9EWI2, while the carrier-locked variant receives version G990U1UES9EWJ1. As previously mentioned, this update includes the October 2023 security patch, addressing 12 security issues. Furthermore, the update may also encompass bug fixes and performance enhancements. It is being made available across all major network carriers, including AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon. Users with other variations of the phone can expect to receive the update shortly.
Ideally, your Galaxy S21 FE will automatically notify you about the latest software update. However, if you haven’t received the notification, you can manually check for the update by navigating to Settings » Software Updates and selecting the “Download and Install” option. In case you don’t see an update even after a manual check, you can download the new firmware from our database and install it using Odin.
Galaxy S21 FE to Receive Android 14 (One UI 6.0) Update Soon
Samsung introduced the Galaxy S21 FE 5G in January 2022 with Android 12 (One UI 4.0). The company rolled out the Android 13 (One UI 5.0) update for the device in December of the previous year. However, the smartphone is yet to receive the Android 14 (One UI 6.0) update. Samsung has committed to providing four Android OS upgrades and five years of security updates for this device. This means that the Galaxy S21 FE will also be eligible for Android 15 and Android 16 updates in the future.
