A fresh image from the world of Assassin’s Creed Red has surfaced on the internet, and though it doesn’t divulge any substantial details, it does offer fans a closer glimpse of the presumed main character for this upcoming game. For those unfamiliar, Assassin’s Creed Red, which is currently its working codename and not an official title, is an eagerly anticipated open-world RPG installment within the franchise, set in the much-requested backdrop of Japan.

Indeed, Assassin’s Creed Red seems to be Ubisoft’s response to long-standing fan requests, dating back to hints as far back as Assassin’s Creed 3. In that game, there was a section featuring an Eye of Horus, which later evolved into Assassin’s Creed Origins; an Omega symbol denoting Greece, which paved the way for Assassin’s Creed Odyssey; and a torii, which subtly hinted at Assassin’s Creed Red.

The image in question was shared by Ubisoft writer Pierre Boudreau on his LinkedIn profile. While its official status is unclear, since it doesn’t seem to be part of the marketing campaign, it remains accessible at the time of writing. The most prominent feature of the image is a close look at the face of the presumed protagonist. She was briefly revealed in the initial announcement of Assassin’s Creed Red, but she was hooded, concealing her face. This image provides a clearer view, and it also includes an Assassin’s Creed logo on the right-hand side. Although these symbols usually incorporate the sect, time period, and/or location, this one appears to be a standard logo. It’s worth noting that there are some kanji characters beneath the symbol, though they are partly obscured by the banner style.

According to rumors and leaks regarding Assassin’s Creed Red, the game may feature two protagonists. The one depicted here is said to be a female shinobi, while the other is believed to be an African samurai, possibly inspired by Yasuke, a real African samurai who attained that rank in 16th-century Japan. However, the veracity of these claims remains uncertain, as only one half of this equation was evident in the announcement trailer.

As for the release date of Assassin’s Creed Red news, it is speculated to be the next console installment in the series following the recent launch of Assassin’s Creed Mirage. However, like all information of this nature, it should be taken with a degree of caution. Nonetheless, it’s reasonable to assume that Ubisoft holds high expectations for this title, given the extensive demand for this particular setting.

Assassin’s Creed Red is currently in development.
