Apple has officially launched Connected Cards in the United Kingdom, following the announcement of iOS 17. The feature underwent several weeks of beta testing before becoming available in the UK. Connected Cards, integrated into the Apple Wallet, utilizes the country’s Open Banking API to incorporate regular bank accounts.
During the initial trial period, Barclays, Lloyds, and HSBC participated, providing users with access to transactions, current balances, and other essential account information.
Connected Cards allows users to designate one or more cards linked to specific accounts within British banks. While a similar system is anticipated in the United States, progress depends on the US Consumer Financial Protection Bureau developing an equivalent to the Open Banking API.
Apple’s website mentions the service in the United States within the Terms and Conditions for the United Kingdom, indicating Apple’s readiness. However, the regulatory framework needs to advance to permit the service in the US.
