Google introduced the Ultra HDR feature alongside Android 14, allowing users to capture and view HDR photos on their Android devices in HDR format, rather than the standard SDR. While some Chinese flagship phones already offer a similar feature, Samsung did not include it in One UI 6. However, there are rumors suggesting that Samsung plans to introduce an Ultra HDR-like feature on its smartphones in the coming year.
This information comes from a reliable source, Ice Universe, who claims that the Galaxy S24 series, expected to launch in January 2024, will support HDR photo viewing in photo albums. If this turns out to be true, it would be an excellent way to take advantage of the rumored 2,500 nits peak brightness of the Galaxy S24 series’ display.
The inclusion of an Ultra HDR-like feature on the Galaxy S24 series is expected to enhance the photo-viewing experience by ensuring that HDR images are not limited to the SDR display range. This means that the original HDR photo’s brightness, contrast, and color range will remain unaffected when viewed.
